Throwback Thursday

Midwinter Break

It's Throwback Thursday, so I decided to write about a few past vacations. I'll start with our Midwinter Break trip. My son and I headed to Nashville for the Hot Chocolate race.  You may know from previous post that I think Buc-cee's is the best place to stop for gas and a restroom break.  This time we got to actually meet Buc-cee!

We conquered the Hot Chocolate 10k. This was a challenge I had not participated in a race since 2020.  As we traveled through downtown, I noticed many cool spots to eat and listen to music.  This would be a nice place to visit with girlfriends and have accommodations  downtown.  That way you can venture around on foot.  We did not stay downtown.  However, the AC Hotel By Marriott Brentwood was an enjoyable stay.  It is conveniently located in a shopping area with plenty of eateries to choose from.

We ventured into downtown to visit the National Museum of African American Music.  This was an awesome interactive experience with many history lessons.  We grabbed some pizza from Slim and Husky's.  This spot was just steps away from the museum.  It was a delicious finale to our trip before we got on the road back to  GA.

Spring Break

This past Spring Break.  We took a road trip for GA to Philadelphia.  We were headed there to spend time with family.  My mother doesn't like to fly anymore and she wanted to come along.  I do not like road-trips unless we make stops for something interesting and fun.  We stayed at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.  I used points for this stay.  Marriott was having a good deal for me buy additional points.  I wouldn't spend the usual nightly rate.  When I return I would give the Residence Inn across the street a try.  The Gaylord is beautiful and has mini bowling.  You can make reservations at Harbor Social even if you are not staying at the hotel.  I love the National Harbor location for its many restaurants, nice view, and it's walker friendly.  We were there during cherry blossom festivities.  There is an outdoor event area in the center of the shops and restaurants on the waterfront where you can see performances.  FYI, if you like lobster rolls, you must try Mason's Famous Lobster Rolls. I attached a groupon link.  Not only do they have a groupon, they are on the Marriott Points Rewards List.  The warm buttery toasted bun and chunks of lobster is lovely.
