The 13th Birthday

We are at the end of Fall Break, and I am finally making a post about July. I know one day I will be more consistent. However, I am determined to post tonight when I get home. Being an educator dominates my work hours so much so that when on vacation, my brain takes one too. But I am good at collecting the footage. We are headed back home from visiting my dad In Philadelphia, watching myEagles vs somebody else’s Jets.

Now back to The 13th Birthday. July 1st finally came and it was time to head to the airport. My son had no idea that so many people would be joining us to celebrate him. He didn’t find out until we were headed to the airport and/or when we arrived at our gate. I was able to keep the trip a secret until one week before. However, he thought it was just us two and he didn’t know where we were heading.

I chose this place about 9 months ahead. It was not even open yet, but the promo hooked me in.  It was pricy but for this milestone I wanted to make it happen. I sent the promo video to that Friend, I knew would push the Go Button. But again, it’s pricey and I had to creatively break this travel budget into payments. First, that one friend confirmed her attendance so now hotel rate is divided in half. Next airline tickets, pricey! I watched them and it didn’t seem to be changing. I’m anxious during these planning stages and I want to check this off my list. Small payments is the goal so, I purchase two one way tickets with Delta to St. Thomas. You know you’re always in a hurry to get there so I wanted nonstop flights going. I used Klarna. Then, I used  just fly via affirm to book my returning flights with American. These were not nonstop but the layover in Charlotte was short. Once I accomplished this, I knew this was happening and I shared the promo video for accommodations, dates, and flight itinerary with family and friends that may be interested in attending. To my surprise and my son’s we ended up with a nice size birthday crew.   I decided to make swag bags for everyone. Inside everyone received a t-shirt from God is Dope sunscreen lip balm, a beach ball for the kids, mini adult beverage for the adults. I bought a heat press to design the swag bags. The actual bags came in handy for some to carry items while exploring the island.  Planning is going well except the hotel we are all now booked for has not opened on the expected date. However, we all received emails that we would be upgraded to the neighboring hotel,Bouyhaus which put us closer to the ocean. Coffee in the mornings on my balcony was amazing !

Upon arrival we met at the pool to fellowship and give out swag bags. On his actual birthday we enjoyed an island tour with Sunfari. The hotel surprised my son with a bag of gifts when we returned to the lobby and a chocolate cake was waiting in our room. We had a birthday dinner in the hotel restaurant and once again he received a lovely birthday dessert. For the next few days we ferried to to St John and enjoyed the extraordinary beach and carnival. We had late night swims in the pool where the kids played Marco Polo and the adults were able to partake in laughter and just relax. My son and I were filled with gratitude for the love shown to us.

I was happy with service and special attention we received from the Bouyhaus staff!
